Flashflood and Hailstorm
We are getting ready for winter and that means that new things are happening. This website is new. And we have some new faces. Jared and Robyn O'Neill have joined us this winter from running their own dog sled operation in Pennsylvania and having worked at various dog sledding operations in Colorado. Jared's passion is running dogs and Robyn has been the brains behind him just like Gregg and I have done it for the past twenty years. We are so happy to have such fine reinforcements. We think Jared and Robyn fit in just great at the ranch and hope they stay for a long, long time. Elise Cody is a new recruit having found us just by chance. She is young and has experience working in a kennel in New Hampshire and she loves running dogs and rivers. We feel fortunate to have our team together. We still have our old faithfuls like Chris Young who has been with us for seven years and Candiss White who tended the dogs for some time, but her season was cut short when she cracked her head on the ice while carrying a bucket of food one day in November. She is going to try again and we are sure glad because they don't come any better than Candiss. And finally new this year, our nieces Chloe Weiss and Olivia Terranova will be interning with us during Christmas break. Things are looking mighty good at the Durango Dog Ranch. Come see us this winter our staff is super!
November 2015 This is how we move it, move it! Today was moving day and the shed arrived happily and safely to our Purgatory kennel. The Egyptians have nothing on Gregg Dubit who single handedly moved the ten foot by eight foot shed that he has lovingly been building at home for the past few weekends. When it came time to give it a home, his helpers were none other than Lydia (12), Hayden (9), Annelise (11) and Gretchen (no age available) and this crew was of little help when it came to moving this shed. Gregg used a large round beam and walked like an Egyptian as he engineered this shed moving by rolling it onto the beams from a tilt deck car hauler as the rest watched in amazement. Lydia shouted for me to get it on camera because as John Bercheron of American’s Funniest Home video’s says “if you get it on film, you could get it in cash”. Of course we all thought the shed was going to hit the ground, topple over and break into several pieces. Alas, none of this happened and all was well. Gregg’s ingenuity was impressive. Now all we need it snow!
via Site Settings ‹ durangodogranch — WordPress.com We know it is a long name, but when you only have one puppy, and she comes named, you must improvise. We call her Roxy and you can too. More dogs to come as our new kennel manager Jared O'Neill and his wife Robin join us this year. They move in this month and we will have pictures and profiles to delight you with! We are so excited to have strong and willing reinforcements to make this season at DDR the best yet!
Ski Magazine 2017 Buyer's Guide tells readers that it is "time to revisit Purgatory where new owners and long-awaited upgrades complement the San Juan skyscape" (2017). Also featured is Durango Dog Ranch and Cupcakes, our fashion model Siberian Husky, looks longly into the camera lens. Our Purgatory Resort Kennel has dog houses up and T posts in. We are in the process of building our new "Dog Sled Shed" and filling it with cool items like DDR shot glasses and Stormy Kromer hats. We are still waiting for a more solid trail. We are booking half day trips starting NOW as we can drive to the snow in the high country.
A new season is upon us. New puppies breathe new life into the kennel and this year we will have the Louisiana litter on the snow, Boudreaux, Voodoo, Gumbo, and Gator are almost 7 months. They will start training here at the ranch as soon as our new ATV arrives. More pictures of that to come. Purgatory ski Resort is switching over from summer to winter and as soon as that is complete, we will be online and ready to take reservations. Please be patient as we wait patiently for that to happen! More to come...
